8th Kestrel Falcon nest box on pole in fields

LEFT: 8th Kestrel Falcon nest box, mounted on March 16, 2002 on a pole. This is in a large open agricultural area in southwest Frederick County. I built the box and gave it away before it was mounted. I plan on monitoring it though. Just after mounting - orchard workers were adjacent to this box daily. There are 7 other Kestrel boxes within a 1 mile radius of it. Most were active in the Spring of 2002.

Monitoring notes:
3/25/2004 Kestrel looked in box entrance a flew away at 8:30 AM. Starling was near by. 1 mile and 2 boxes north, the same scene occured.
3/26/2004 Pair of Kestrels at top of pole at 8:30 AM.
6/12/2004 No monitoring for over 1 mo.
6/12/2004 Possible Kestrel tail sticking out of box at 6:45 PM.
7/22/2004 Whitewashing on roof underside above entrance - evidence of babies. I didn't open the box.

4/04/2005 Kestrel on utility line next to box at 7:15 PM and 7:35 PM. It is now about 2 boxes away (east) from box #15
6/20/2005 I opened the box and there was whitewashing (from 2004?) and 2 warm eggs in it... probably from the Spring. There was no strong smell of a recent brood so I'm guessing the eggs were abandoned for some reason. The box was noticeably wobbly and its fasteners still need to be tightened.
