7th Kestrel Falcon nest box, close and aerial view

ABOVE: LEFT: 7th Kestrel Falcon nest box, mounted on March 2, 2002 on a privately-owned utility pole. I'm grateful that the property owners in Frederick County, MD permitted me to do this. 2 white aluminum flashing strips keep rain off of the access door hinges and joints. Combined hose clamps fasten the nest box to the post by its special 2x4 "backbone". TOP, CENTER: This shows the box, the cultivated fields it overlooks, and some young cattle. The land in the opposite direction looks similar. BOTTOM, CENTER: Aerial photo. The southeast-facing box is on the inside corner of a cattle corral, see: "A". This large box is a Kestrel and Wood Duck Combo box because it is next to an intermittent stream (see: "B") which is 1/4 MI from a larger creek. Additionally, it is near some trees, so Screech Owls could also use it. RIGHT: This view shows the brown aluminum predator guard, see: "C". Its smooth surface should deter snakes, squirrels, cats, and racoons from climbing up to the box.
