18th Kestrel nest box site

18th Kestrel Falcon nest box: On farm garage

ABOVE: 18th Kestrel Falcon nest box: Located on an NIH-owned telephone pole facing east and slightly south, this box is in a large field on the crest of a knoll area near a duck pond. The box entrance is 11' high.

The box is close to boxes 19-21, and was mounted on 11/26/02. After learning that NIH was placing a variety of nest boxes on their property, contact was established and a plan proposed, which enabled me to place some boxes of my own. Their Poolesville campus is an ideal habitat for Kestrel nesting and wildlife in general. I am very grateful to NIH for allowing me to use their campus for this project.

Monitoring notes:
6/24/03 Usage from unknown birds, possibly Tree Swallows. Dropping stains & feathers inside.
The grass was placed there by me the yr before.
2004 Didn't check the box.
6/30/05 Starling usage.
