15th Kestrel nest box site

ABOVE: 15th Kestrel Falcon nest box on Oak tree along road.
This is on a roadside across from a agricultural
field in the Adamstown area of
Frederick County, MD. Mounted on 5/22/02. Shown are 2 northeast views and 1 southwest view. 2 Kestrels were seen
on the nearby utility lines the day before it was mounted.
Monitoring notes:
7/22/2004 Still no signs of usage.
The box had fallen down in the spring.
When I picked up the box from the ground there was a large Garter Snake in it which I
carefully released. There were also what looked like raccoon claw marks on the sides so I
decided not to put it back in this tree.
4/4/2005 Has been mounted about 2 boxes
away (west) from box #8. About 1/10 MI east
of it is a box (not mine) where a Kestrel looked inside of at 7:15 PM
4/8/2005 Kestrel on line next to box
at 6:05 PM and another on dead tree also nearby.
Early May: Starling on utilty line about 30' from box.
5/27 Kestrel on line about 100' from box
at 6:00 PM.
5/31 Group of Starlings on utilty line about 30'
from box at 6:00 PM.
6/16[?] Kestrel looked out of box that is 1/4 mile
east of this one at 8:00 AM.
6/24 Saw Starling enter box at 6:15 PM.
