12th Kestrel Falcon nest box on pole in fields

ABOVE, LEFT: 5 babies shown with their eyes open. It smelled very bad when looking down into the box and on the floor were layers of various small bones, rodent hips, and bird feet at all stages of decay, some with blood and fur still on them. There were also whitewash layers of baby Kestrel eliminations on the floor and walls from years past as well as from recent days. (This reminded me of abstract art) ABOVE, RIGHT: 12th Kestrel Falcon nest box. 1st of 2 mounted on about 1992 by a late Kestrel enthusiast. Located in an agricultural field in the Dickerson area of Montgomery County, MD. I assumed maintenance/monitoring of it on 5/18/02 after speaking with the property caretaker.

Monitoring notes:
5/18/2002 Probably Kestrel babies, both parents brought food into box.
5/22 Kestrel babies, maybe, mother didn't stay in box.
5/29 5 Kestrel babies.
6/10 The babies probably fledged.
5/1/2003 Kestrel near box on various days.
7/21/2004 My guess, even without opening (and smelling) the box is that this box did fledge some babies this summer.
