Flying Squirrel house #7 with Flyer in it

ABOVE: 5/11/2003 photo of Flying Squirrel house #7, which was placed here a few months earlier. It is on a lone White Oak that is 40' from the nearest large trees. On June 1, 2003, a Flyer poked its head out a few times in the early evening while it was still light out. I see new signs of the Flyer usage every 1-2 weeks (as of June 20). There is fur, droppings, and fine-stranded fungus inside the box on the floor. I'm not completely sure whether the fuzzy material is fur or fungus or both. Box #4 had the same in it as well as some nest material before birds began using it.

LEFT: 2/29/2004 photo of Flying Squirrel peeking out of its winter nest. Several Flyers were in it when I checked it.

Monitoring notes:
6/20/2003 Removed the contents to guage when more usage has taken place.
7/15/2003 Flyer in box. It crawled out but stayed near box when checking it in the evening.
7/24/2003 Checked box a day after a twig was moved from the entrance.
Large scat & 2 moth wings inside.

9/27/2003 A few days after the Flyers left Box #8, a twig was moved from the entrance,
and 1 or more Flyers in a large nest were found in it on 9/27.

12/13/2003 Urine stains on outer bottom of box.
