Tufted Titmouse nest in Flying Squirrel house #3 ABOVE: Flying Squirrel house #3 on 10/5/2002 after 3 weeks. It is a converted bird house. Mounted about 15' high in a Tulip Poplar tree. 1st activity noticed on 12/21/2002. They have used it as a Hickory nut eating station. On 4/15/2003 more usage noticed. On 7/24 2 acorn pcs were in it. On 7/25 twig in entrance was removed by something.

LEFT: Tufted Timouse bird nest in this box with tiny just-hatched babies found on 5/11/2003.

Baby Tufted Titmouse LEFT: The only remaining baby Tufted Timouse on 5/22/2003. Even with extensive caulking and an overhanging roof, the box leaked in the rains which caused the 4 other babies to die from the cold. I replaced the nest but the next day that baby left. I found it on the ground and placed it in a 16'x24' chicken wire-fenced area that is partially-roofed and protected from cats and dogs. As of 5/24 and 3 more rains, the baby is still there and growing because the parents are feeding it. On 6/7 it was at feeder looking healthy and being fed by a parent.
