Bat house #1
Most photos by John C., 2001/2002 in Dickerson, MD.

ABOVE, LEFT: OBC (Organization for Bat Conservation) main component. ABOVE, CENTER: Gables to protect from rain. Chicken wire is under the gables to keep birds from roosting there. The house has a wider shell on the top and back side that makes it easier for bats to locate using their echolocation. A hawk/owl perch is on the top. ABOVE, RIGHT: The back, or northwest side has a layer of vinyl siding to protect from cold winds and rain. The red reflector was used to determine how much it was swaying in the evening winds. Additional wood and cable reenforcing was added to limit the swaying. BELOW: Bat house #1 from ground.
