Flying Squirrel house #1: Snake
Photos by John C., 2002 in Dickerson, MD.

ABOVE, LEFT: Photo of a young Black Rat Snake entering Flying Squirrel house #1. Taken on
on 10/5/2002. They don't turn black until they are older. No squirrels were in the house. I was able to find the snake because some birds, especially Bluebirds, were causing
a raucus in the area. A downy woodpecker looked in the top entrance and then a Bluebird attacked the top entrance.
I then saw the snake. I have found several rat snakes this way. ABOVE, RIGHT: The coiled snake inside the house after I opened it.
LEFT: Removing the snake with a stick.
